DIY Turmeric Mask

Hey my lovelies,

I would like to share with you a mask that I have been making and using for a number of years now that I find really effective for numerous things.

Turmeric powder also known as Haldi is widely known for cooking purposes but can be used for other things too including keeping your skin looking and feeling amazing, it is known that Indian brides use turmeric before marriage to give their skin an amazing glow and has plenty of great benefits.

The benefits to using turmeric on the skin are as follows;

  • Helps clear acne and acne scarring
  • Helps soothe inflammation caused by acne
  • Reduces oil
  • Helps soften lines and wrinkles
  • Has antioxidant properties
  • Great exfoliant
  • Even out skin tone

Lactic acid in milk or yogurt benefits are;

Lactic acid is derived from (sour) milk, and is known for it’s skin softening abilities. This is why Cleopatra was such as fan of her milk baths!

  • Reducing fine lines
  •  Improving skin tone and texture
  •  Fading pigmentation, acne scars and evening out the color of your skin
  • Controlling and preventing oiliness and breakouts

Gram flour benefits include;

  • Skin Lightening
  • Reduce Oiliness
  •  Fight Pimples

Tip!

To Remove Tan. Mix 4 teaspoons of gram flour, 1 teaspoon of lemon, 1 teaspoon of yogurt and a pinch of turmeric to form a smooth paste, this will remove and lighten fake tans.

 You will need;

  • A heaped tablespoon of Turmeric
  • The same amount of Gram flour, (ground chickpeas) you can find this flour in Indian food stores or the world food section in supermarkets,
  •  a splash or dollop of organic plain yogurt or whole milk
  • face mask brush
  • gloves (optional)
  • face cloth to cleanse off

Mix the turmeric, gram flour & yogurt/milk until you get a paste (pay in mind that when using milk the consistency will be thinner and more liquefied) and apply on the skin with a face mask brush, leave the mask on the face until its dries usually about 10-15 mins, then wash off in circular motions using warm water and a wash cloth (this will exfoliate the skin nicely) then moisturise!

Disclaimer

Turmeric has a tendency to stain skin and clothes so its best to use gloves and protect clothing, if you have fair skin then you can reduce the amount of turmeric you apply to the mixture or leave it on for less time.

when you do wash it off the skin it is normal for the skin to have a yellowish tinge but don’t worry this will fade as u cleanse, (probably not the best move to do it before going out and about hehe) so do it before bed or in the evening.

I use this mask about once a fortnight for a deep cleanse but there is not limit on how often you may apply it.
