The Ordinary Haul & Review

The Ordinary Haul & Review

Hey Loves!

So… I FINALLY received my Ordinary order last week after around a month long wait and I wanted to get a review up for you asap!

If you are an enthusiast like me you make have kept seeing a brand pop up everywhere recently called The Ordinary which is part of a bigger brand named Deciem.

The beauty industry have gone nuts over these products because they offer effective skincare with quality ingredients for a fraction of the price! roughly around two months ago they launched their newest part of the range which is foundations, they offer two different types of foundation a serum one and a coverage one both with 25 shades to choose from.

I will be reviewing 3 products for you today that I have fallen in love with in every way!

IMG_0582.PNG

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation

This Foundation is Amazing! I’m so impressed with it its unreal…

I tested this out last week and was really blown away by its performance, it was the hottest week of the year so far and it lasted all day with me barely having to blot my skin.

This foundation delivers full coverage, its long lasting ( I teamed it with the High adherence silicone primer which I will be also reviewing) it feels light weight on the skin and the colour match is spot on ( I opted for the shade 2.1Y) and easy to find your shade with their easy skin tone matching system, they offer yellow tones, red tones and neutral tones to choose the right shade for you.

This foundation has performed better then some of my high end £30 foundations ill definitely be sticking with this one shaving me lotsa mulah!

If I could change one thing it would make it 50ml instead of 30ml but for the price of £5.90 there not anything else to complain about!

High Adherence Silicone Primer

to be completely honest I’m not a fan of silicone primers… I don’t like the way they feel on my skin but hearing and seeing all the raving reviews about it I thought id give it a whirl and boy was I glad I did!

This primer really delivers it doesn’t feel like your standard silicone primer texture and felt comfortable on my skin, it worked beautifully alongside the coverage foundation.

for £3.90 its worth a try!

The ‘Buffet’ Serum

Usually I like to use a skincare product for minimum a month to gage how much skin reacts and to see any results, but after using this for two weeks I can honestly say my skin feels hydrated and plumper already

Having hit the big 30 I wanted something to combat the signs of aging this serum contains several peptides which get straight to work

What they say…

with out getting to scientific here’s why this multi technology peptide serum is so effective…

Its alcohol, nut, and silicone free as well as being Vegan and cruelty free.

“This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of ageing at once. The technologies are Matrixyl 3,000 peptide complex in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes. The total concentration of these technologies in the formula by weight is 25.1%.

Note: The name of this formula was inspired by some brands referring to their expensive products offering combinations of these technologies as a “buffet”, distastefully comparing such products to buffets that offer various kinds of food in one sitting.”

So far I am really happy with how my skin has reacted and looks with this serum, it will remain a stable part of my skincare regime for a long time yet and for £12.70 I cant argue with that!

So there you have it my thoughts on this amazing brand, I cant wait to try out more… I’ll keep you posted!

Salicylic Acid peel

Salicylic Acid Peel

Hey guys,

Since Turning 30 in January I have become more aware of getting the most out of my skin and trying to keep it clear, hydrated and as youthful looking as possible.

So instead of the usual lotions, potions and anti aging creams which are an obvious solution I’d thought I would try something stronger and more effective over a short period of time hence a peel.

Now peels are usually done at salons and are in fact a lot stronger than any peel for use at home, the percentage of acid used is much higher in salon where as usually for home use the percentage won’t go above 10% which mean it can be used more often.

Today I will be reviewing a salicylic acid peel which is 2% from Bravura London. I have talked about Bravura London in previous reviews for the Dermaflannel review click here and for the First oil cleanse and Calendula toner review click here

Bravura Salicylic acid peel 2%

img_0155

Why salicylic acid?

This 2% daily salicylic acid exfoliator is great for treating skin complaints such as blackheads, enlarged pores, congested skin and acne where the skin is oily,  these skin issues are caused by the skin being clogged by excess oil and dead skin so using a peel daily will give far superior results than using a stronger peel once a week.

Salicylic Acid is much stronger than other acids so it is highly effective in lower percentage solutions, Salicylic acid is a common treatment for helping to treat breakouts and keep the skin clear along with other benefits.

So what exactly can it be used for?

Salicylic Acid has been known to help the following conditions;

  • Acne
  • Blackheads
  • Over production of sebum (oily skin)
  • Open/enlarged pores
  • Bumps under the skin (trapped oil)
  • Milia

Salicylic Acid is a highly effective chemical exfoliant and an excellent pore cleanser with anti wrinkle and anti acne properties. It works by gently removing old cells from the skin, and also boosts collagen production which in turn can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles too!

How to use

  1. Start with cleansed skin, please do not use any type of exfoliators or harsh products on the skin before hand to prevent over exfoliating.
  2. wait 30 mins but no more than an hour before you use this peel, this is because you need to wait for the skin to return to its normal PH level. With a old makeup brush or the advised special application brush recommended sweep the acid on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin area being careful to avoid the eye area and under eye area nostrils and lips.
  3. wait around 2-5 mins depending on your skin sensitivity.
  4. rinse thoroughly  with warm not hot water this will deactivate the acid and remove it from the skin you can then moisturise.

When you purchase any of Bravura London’s peels and skincare you will receive an in depth instruction leaflet please make sure you read and follow these instructions carefully especially with the acid peels.

Disclaimer

I have simplified the how to use steps for easy reading but if you are going to use these peels please remember to read the leaflet and do a test patch on your skin!

My Results

After using this product for coming up to a month I can honestly say that I really love it, I was in fact quite nervous and I have never used an acid peel before and after reading the instructions and information thoroughly it was actually very easy to use.

I use this peel every other day with the recommended brush and although bravura state that the skin in the first couple weeks whilst using this product will possibly breakout (this is called purging removing all the impurities) It wasn’t as bad as I thought I only got a few blemishes.

Overall my skin feels smoother and looks more even in tone and brighter and I will definitely continue to use this as part of my skincare routine, this peel costs as little as £9.59 and the application brush £3.48 so affordable and effective!

You can purchase this product from the Bravura London website, for more information or to purchase click here

Have you tried these products before? how did they work for you I’d love to know!

Re-hydrate with Mario Badescu

Re-hydrate with Mario Badescu

Hey loves!

Today’s post will be about Re-hydrating the skin In this cold weather, with the cold temperatures, central heating and other elements having a dehydrating effect on the skin, especially at this time of year I’d thought I’d share my re-hydration tip to give the skin a quick boost whether you are bare faced, made up and/or on the move.

Mario Badescu facial spray

IMG_0892.PNG

I’m a big fan of Mario Badescu skincare having blogged about the drying lotion before, I feel like it’s non gimmicky – straight to the point range of products that do exactly what they say on the tin and so far have never left me disappointed!

This facial spray has been my god send particularly this month as I was away in Amsterdam for my birthday and noticed my skin became really dehydrated, tight and slightly flaky.

The spray contains a fusion of calming and hydrating ingredients such as aloe, herbs and rosewater, it can be used on bare skin or whilst wearing makeup and also to set make up too, this I’ve tried and felt that although it was good it wasn’t quite as effective as the urban decay all nighter setting spray which is amazing! to check out my ‘set that masterpiece’ review click here.

After a couple days of arriving back in London from Amsterdam using this spray a few times a day had really helped my skin return to normal and definitely recommend it if you are traveling or experiencing dehydrating conditions.

This facial spray can be purchased online or at Urban Outfitters to purchase or for more information click here

Have you tried any Mario Badescu skincare products before? Any I need to check out?

The Glow Is Real!

The Glow Is Real!

Hey guys,

Sorry I’ve been MIA it’s a busy time of year for me what with working, Christmas with a little one and my 30th birthday coming up…eeek!

So you know I love a good highlight and I’ve been on the prowl for sometime now to find the perfect shade of gold for my skin tone without glitter or shimmer and… I’ve found it!

It’s Jacklyn Hill’s Champagne Pop by Becca, I know I’m late on the bandwagon! But I have an excuse! When this highlighter launched a couple years back I was up for throwing my money at the nearest stockist but, being sensible I thought about the price tag and tried to find dupes along the way which I never seemed to live up to the real thing to be honest! I put it off for over a year but finally had enough and splurged on it!

Jacklyn Hill Champagne Pop by Becca

This gorgeous highlighter is the perfect apricot/gold I’ve been looking for, usually when I’ve tried other highlighters I find them too Ashy or white on my mixed race skin and feel they look chalky this however is AMAZING!

img_0814

A beautiful, buttery pressed powder, this illuminator is so finely milled it’s almost creamy, perfect for achieving the glow life some of us crave whilst still achieving an effortless glow.

IMG_0819.PNG

img_0817

Champagne pop was created by make up maestro and YouTuber Jacklyn Hill, I had been following her videos for a couple years before this launch so was eager to try it out as I also love the brand Becca.

Now guys I know £32 is a lot to spend on a highlighter for some people, and I have some similar alternatives for you at different price ranges if you don’t want to part with that kind of Mulah!

The Balm Mary Lou-maniser

This is slightly whiter on my skin tone but before I found Champagne pop was my go to highlighter looks great on lighter skin tones as it can look ashy if over applied, this was the closest match to champagne pop I had within my collection, This highlighter retails at £16.00 click here to purchase or for more information and click below for the full My faves from The Balm review.

Cleopatra’s Kiss sleek palette in shade sphinx

This is a lovely highlight but unfortunately contains too much glitter for my taste, but if you like glitter and shimmer this is perfect for you! this palette retails at £9.99 click here to purchase or for more information and click below for the full Sleek Cleopatra’s Kiss Palette  review.

Make up Revolution golden sugar palette shade number 4

This is within a palette with 7 other colours, the 4th shade on the top row is slightly more gold but that can be a good thing Which makes it less likely to look chalky on tanned and darker skin tones. This palette retails at £6.00 click here to purchase or for more information and click below for the full Bronzed Goddess review.

So there you have it I’m in love with my Champagne pop! I’m happy I finally caved and purchased it and reckon I’ll be reaching for it for a long time yet… note to self I should always listen to my gut… but I am glad I tried other products along the way.

You can purchase Champagne pop on the Cult beauty website click here to purchase or for more information.

Do you have a direct dupe of champagne pop? I’d love to know!

Shills Purifying Peel Off Mask

Shills Purifying Peel Off Mask

Hey guys,

Although I’ve tried peel off masks before I wanted to try the shills purifying peel off black mask for some time after seeing it pop up a lot on instagram.

IMG_0742.PNG

You may have seen these mask tutorials all over social networking sites with hilarious videos of people trying to remove them (I must admit I did giggle but thought it cant be that bad right?…WRONG! ) If your not familiar with these masks it’s a purifying mask that contains special ingredients to remove blackheads and impurities from the skin when you peel the mask off, however it really is as painful as it looks!

How it works

Shills Deep Cleansing Peel-Off Black Face Mask claims to be an ultimate blackhead buster, Specially formulated to unblock clogged pores by peeling blackheads, dirt and spot-causing bacteria away. Activated bamboo charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out the most deeply rooted impurities while natural ingredients calendula, rosemary & grapefruit help to rebalance and restore a glowing complexion.

My Thoughts and Results

I was excited to try this mask, but was left a little disappointed and I’ll tell you why…

I steamed my face before hand to open up my pores a little to help draw out the impurities, I applied the mask and this is where I think I made my mistake… I applied it all over my face instead of just on my problem areas i.e. Nose.

My skin is relatively clear and an notmal/combination skin type I also applied a turmeric mask a couple days earlier so it was clearer than normal, I applied quite a thick layer all over avoiding brows eyes and mouth and waited 30 mins for it to competely dry… then I started to try remove the mask and it REALLY HURT! This mask clings to everything even the tiny peach fuzz hairs on your face (hence the pain removing)

It took me 10 mins in intervals to remove this mask I had to take breaks my eyes tearing up and everything!

Once I managed to get it off I did find my skin felt really clean and smooth but I still had some blackheads left and expected to see more on the mask which was disappointing.

The next day my skin went really oily even more than usual causing my makeup to melt off even after I used my favourite setting spray! I’m assuming this mask took away all my natural oils which caused my skin to go into overdrive and produce more sebum (oil) and I also got two new spots (hurray…not) again the mask must of pulled the dirt to the surface causing it to become a blemish.

So, my overall thoughts on this mask are that its just OK, if I used it again it would only be on a specific area and on rare occasions, I know when my skin doesn’t like something as it reacts quickly or within 24 hours of using a product, personally the turmeric mask I use does a lot more for my skin than this mask did (link to my DIY turmeric mask recipe post here)

Note: Anything that involves pulling the skin is not a good idea to use regularly, the skin is delicate and my skin took a while to recover from this mask, because this mask was all over social media I wanted to test it out but is not something I’d recommend if you have sensitive acne prone skin.

You can purchase the shills purifying peel off mask on Amazon or eBay.

NYX Double Stacked Fiber Mascara

NYX Double Stacked Fiber Mascara

Hey Guys,

If your a regular visitor to my blog you’ll know I love long lashes!

Along with some of the treatments I use to enhance and maintain my lashes (check out my previous posts LVL Lash Treatment & My Lash Secret Revealed ) I love a great mascara, so today I wanted to blog about a mascara I have been trying out from Nyx which is a fiber mascara that claims to add length to your lashes.

When I heard about this mascara I was intrigued, I am familiar with fiber mascaras and have used one before but didn’t really think it made much difference, but after some research and reading up on reviews I’d thought I’d give it a shot!

IMG_0692.PNG

You’ll notice that this mascara comes with two tubes, the black is the mascara you use to coat the lashes before the fibers and seal them in after, the white tube is the fibers which are like small bits of fluff!

My Results

IMG_0693.PNG

Top pic, left eye Nyx, right eye mascara free. Bottom pic, left eye Nyx, right eye thin coat of mascara.

My Thoughts

I liked the idea of this mascara… but I’m not overly in love with the black mascara wand itself I find the brush causes too much product to cling to it causing clumpyness and I loathe clumpyness!! I found trying to wipe off the excess a bit of a faff so I now use a clean mascara brush I like which is the seventeen falsifeye HD mascara wand (review click here) it makes a much better application and result in my opinion as the wand combs through the lashes separating them creating volume.

The fibers are tricky… one would think to apply on the root to tip of your lashes which is suggested… but I find this is really not needed! Being a fluffy consistency it can really irritate your eyes so I use the fibers sparingly and only on the tips of my lashes to add the length I desire, I found once sealed with the black tube the fibers stayed put and I didn’t get any fallout throughout the day which is impressive!

My overall thoughts on this mascara are positive, however I do think there could be a little improvement on the wand of the black tube of mascara but that’s just my opinion, I am very fussy about mascara wands.

Disclaimer

I would avoid this product if you have sensitive eyes or wear contacts, if you do try it out use sparingly and only on the tips of the lashes if irritation occurs do not continue to use.

I would definitely recommend this if your looking for instant length for minimum effort on a budget!

You can purchase this mascara kit from Nyx online or Boots, to purchase of for more information please click here.

More Bravura Gems!

More Bravura Gems!

Hey loves,

So if you follow my blog you may have seen my post on the Bravura London Dermaflannel (full review here) which I gave a positive review and I promised more Bravura goodies to come so here goes!

I wanted a really good cleanser and toner for my combination skin type so did some research and found that the first oil cleanse and Purifying Calendula toner would work great for me and my odd spot here and there, I also wanted something that would remove my make up effortlessly and it definitely does just that and more!

IMG_0636.PNG

Bravura First Cleanse Oil

This is great stuff and after using it for a few weeks to ensure that it worked well for my skin and I can give a honest review I have noticed a lack of breakouts and my skin looking clearer than ever!

What Bravura say…

‘This deep cleansing oil gently removes make-up and impurities without disturbing your natural oil balance. When a little water is added, it turns in to a milky cleanser for quick and easy removal. We have combined natures best, organic cleansing oils and infused them with organic chamomile, lavender and rosemary oil, for a truly soothing and therapeutic experience.’

My Experience

I really like this cleanser, it smells natural and removes my make up like a dream even heavy eye make up and liquid lipsticks, its gentle enough to use around the eye area and because its so effective it means no rubbing or tugging on delicate skin.

I like that I can apply it as an oil straight onto a dry face then activate the milky cleanser option just by adding water, I’ve been using this day and night (evening cleanse I usually cleanse twice if I’ve had make up on that day) followed by the Purifying Calendula toner which I will go on to talk about in more detail.

I know what you’re thinking… how can an oil cleanser possibly be good for combination to oily skin right?

Heres why… combination to oily skins still need moisture, oily skin can still get dehydrated, dry and flaky and although it sounds weird this is quite common, no matter what your skin type this first cleanse oil would suit you.

Ingredients & Benefits

The main oil in this cleanser is Safflower oil, safflower oil contains linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid that offers many benefits for skin, Linoleic acid offers powerful dirt and oil removing abilities without aggravating the skin. Coconut and Avocado oils nourish the skin while Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant. Essential oils of Lavender, Chamomile and Rosemary are soothing and purifying.

Purifying Calendula Toner

I like this cleanser, reason being its not too stripping on my skin leaving it tight like most toners I have used in the past, I use this after the first cleanse oil to remove any excess cleanser and dirt on the skin.

What Bravura say…

‘Purifying Calendula Toner is an effective facial astringent recommended for normal and normal to oily skin. Its normalising pH helps to fight bacteria, making it particularly valuable for skin types with partial oiliness and break outs. PH 3.8

This exfoliating facial toner combines the effective exfoliation properties of 10% Glycolic Acid and 3% Lactic Acid with hydrating aloe vera and healing calendula extract. It works to remove the last traces of cleanser, along with dead skin cells and excess oil to leave skin feeling smooth, soft and ready for the next stage in your skincare routine.’

My Experience

I have really noticed since using this toner along with the cleanser of course that I have a lot less dry and flaky areas which would normally be a problem around my nose, it leaves my skin feeling soft clean and refreshed after use and ready for moisturiser.

Ingredients & Benefits

Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid effectively accelerate the exfoliation of the skin’s dead cells to help reduce blemishes and breakouts while also fighting against premature ageing, The 10% content of Calendula extract provides anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory, soothing and moisturising properties.

When we cleanse, the PH of our skin naturally gets higher, a high PH creates a breeding ground for bacteria, so by using an acid toner you’re instantly lowering your skin’s PH. The exfoliating action of the toner also means that by removing these dead skin cells, the moisturiser you then apply is going to work a lot more efficiently as it’s reaching your healthy skin, there’s no point moisturising dead skin guys!

So there you have it! I use this cleanser and toner twice a day and my Dermaflannel around twice a week and have noticed a huge difference in the overall feel and look of my skin recently, I love this brand its backstory and ethos, what’s even more amazing is that its totally affordable and has done more for my skin then some of the high end brands I’ve used over the years… definitely something I’m going to stuck with!

Keep em clean…

Keep em clean…

Hey guys,

Did you know that dirty make up brushes are one of the main causes of problematic skin and breakouts?

Make up brushes harbour a lot of bacteria so it’s is very important that you wash them regularly no matter how much of a chore it is!

It doesn’t matter how much you take care of your skin by cleansing, toning and moisturising this will all be undone if you are applying your make up with dirty brushes…

I came across these surprising statistics recently online that shockingly 39% of women who use makeup brushes don’t clean them even once a month. Even worse, 22% admitted never cleaning them at all!

Errmmaaghadd!

Keep em clean ladies !

How I clean my make up brushes

Yes I’m going to admit that I LOATHE cleaning make up brushes its such a chore but so worth it if you want to maintain good skin.

I usually clean my brushes twice a month minimum, here are the steps I take to cleanse my brushes and what I use to do so.

There are plenty of products out there to use to clean your brushes some specifically designed for this purpose but I swear by baby shampoo it’s gentle not too stripping and does the trick.

Step 1: use your sink or a basin fill half way with warm but not too hot water, just dipping the brush head in to wet them squeeze out some shampoo (about a grape size amount) into your palm and in circular motions swirl the brush in it making sure you are cleansing the base of the brush too, paying extra attention to foundation and powder brushes (the ones which do the most blending and use with more heavier products)

Step 2: once all the brushes have been soaped up start to rinse out the brushes, again taking care not to submerge the handles, I tend to soap them all up then rinse them all as it’s easier.

Step 3: change the water and if needed repeat steps one and two, keep rinsing the brushes until the soap has gone and the water is clear.

Step 4: squeeze out the excess water and use a clean towel to hand dry and lay flat all the brushes on.

Step 5: once you’ve hand dried them as much as possible lay them flat on a clean dry towel or paper towel to dry naturally, do not use heat to dry them as this can effect the glue bonding or synthetic fibres used altering the life span of your brushes.

I usually wash my brushes when I know I won’t be wearing makeup for a day or two giving them time to air dry, I know this can be a pain because u need them right? but trust me it’s worth it!

Tips:

  • Never submerge the whole brush including handle into water this can cause the handle to expand and loosen the glue bonding the bristles (synthetic or not) to start shedding, coming out in clumps or the brush head coming out completely!
  • it’s normal for some brushes to start shedding a little during use after you’ve washed and dryed them especially non synthetic ones.
  • You can also wipe over your brushes in between cleaning with an anti bacterial wipe to help keep them clean.
  • Make sure you clean your eyelash curlers too to prevent the risk of eye infections.
  • This method can be used for beauty blenders and sponges too.

So there you have it it’s totally worth the effort, if you do this regularly you are cutting down your chances of breakouts and also getting the most out of your makeup products via application, your make up will thank you as you won’t be contaminating it too!

Wunderbrow Update!

Wunderbrow Update!

Hey guys,

As you may know I love my trusty wunderbrow, it’s a fantastic product that will continue to be part of my staple make up collection to check out my full previous review on my wunderbrow experience please click here.

This post is a quick update on wunderbrow jet black, I previously used the shade brown/ black but thought it was too light in comparison to my hair colour which is black so was thankful when wunder2 released a jet black version of wunderbrow, I immediately purchased it and here are my thoughts and results…

img_0588

As I’ve stated already in my previous post you get the wunderbrow tube of product a spoolie wand and instructions within the box, however I would advise using a slanted eyebrow brush for precise application as the brush applicator isn’t great.

My Thoughts

I Love this product and now even more there is a jet black shade! as I’ve said before I don’t like my brows to look too harsh and dark so I use a light hand to apply, brushing through after 2 mins or so once they’ve set with the spoolie wand to soften the look.

So if your looking for a brow product that wont budge until you remove it this is the one!
